At the end of the day, we were still standing and smiling…..

Thirteen lucky customers were chosen for their golfing prowess to join us for our inaugural Howlett of Lavenham Golf Day held at Haverhill Golf Club.  We all enjoyed playing this challenging course, which was in tip top condition,  a super lunch and some interesting prizes.  Needless to say, the girls outplayed the boys on this occasion!!! Roll on 2012 for a return match.

USEFUL INFORMATION GUIDE (3)

WINTER IS NEARLY HERE

Most forecasters are predicting another bad winter.  Last winter we had many customers who were unable to get around in their cars during the icy and snowy periods as rural roads and housing estates do not get gritted by the Council.

Some people ask us “Do we need a 4 x 4?”  In most cases the answer is NO.  What you need are the right tyres for the conditions.

Your normal tyres are designed to improve road holding, minimize noise and improve fuel economy.  In the snow, you need wide block treads and a very soft compound.  Winter tyres are designed to operate best at temperatures below 7°c and give good grip in very wet and muddy conditions as well as snow.

As this will probably be the third winter in a row where we will see snow in East Anglia, Howlett of Lavenham have secured stocks of winter tyres in all our regular sizes.

Pre-order your winter tyres now and we will make an appointment in mid October to change over to the new tyres.  At the same time, we will carry out a FREE WINTER CHECK on your car.

USEFUL INFORMATION GUIDE (2)

Holiday Time !!!!!!

Going on Holiday or is it a Staycation this year ?

In any event your car will probably be working extra hard !

Compared with the normal shopping trip or school run your car will be subjected to:

1          Heavier loads

2          Longer driver times at higher speeds

3          Higher temperatures

4          Much greater use of cooling fans and air conditioning units

To help minimise the risk of trouble here are a few tips.

A         Check your tyres, look at the tread and the sidewall both inside and out

(you need a torch ).

B         Adjust the tyre pressures for heavy load if required.

C         Check and top up all the other levels e.g. oil, screenwash etc. Has the car

been   serviced ? Do the cooling fans and air con work ?

D         Make up document pack containing items such as, driving licence, insurance

AA and similar contact details and “In case of emergency” phone numbers for

you and your passengers.

E         Make up an emergency kit containing items such as High Vis jacket, Warning

Triangle,  Bulb Kit, Torch and a Picnic blanket or similar to sit or knell on.

F          Do you have everything to hand attend to a puncture ?It’s better to do a dry

run at homein the daylightwithout a boot full of luggage. Dont forget even if

you call the AA they can’t help if you haven’t  got the Locking Wheel Nut           Key !!!!!!!

USEFUL INFORMATION GUIDE (1)

TYRE PRESSURES

We often have cars in our workshop with badly underinflated tyres.   This is not usually through the drivers not bothering to check but actually being set to the wrong pressure because of a misinterpretation of the information.  Most Peugeots, Citroen and Renaults have a small information sticker in the driver’s door shut.

The figures are in the Bar unit of pressure!  Also the decimal point is low down!  For example, if the figure is 2.3 the correct pressure is 34 Psi i.e. to convert from Bar to PSI multiply by 15.

A common error is to misread the 2.3 as 23 and assume this is the Psi value.

The upper figures are for normal useage and the lower figures are for heavy loads

Low tyre pressures will reduce the life of your tyres by up to 30%

Howlett of Lavenham has been actively involved in rallying for over 20 years.

This year has seen a return to form with 3 class wins in the last 3 outings and setting many top 20 stage times at very competitive events with over 130 entrants.

Next year we have a full campaign of 6 Belgian and French events planned starting in early March going through to mid October.

These events take the form of 8 to 12 competitive stages, driving on roads closed specially for the event.

The closed season will be used to make a number of enhancements to the car mainly in the form of redesigned bespoke front suspension from our partner company Technical Edge.

Please subscribe to the Howlett of Lavenham news letter for regular rally update through the 2012 season.

Howlett of Lavenham have been sponsoring Tim Cooper, the golf professional at Newton Green Golf Club for a number of years.  We helped with the provision of a new Dryrainge – a covered teaching/practice area to enable lessons to continue in all weathers.  This is a great new facility at the club which enthusiastically encourages junior membership.
